Factory-X

Factory-X

The Factory-X Projects creates an open and collaborative digital ecosystem for factory outfitters and operators, built on the foundations of Catena-X and the principles of Plattform Industrie 4.0.!

Factory-X focuses on 11 dedicated use cases that aim to enhance and integrate both horizontal and vertical aspects of the supply chain within industrial operations.

These use cases are designed to extend the existing supply chain-oriented solutions by adding vertical integration, which directly connects and optimizes store floor operations. Each use case is centered around specific business applications, which are carefully conceptualized, prototypically developed, and validated to ensure they address the unique needs of the manufacturing environment.

This holistic approach enables a seamless integration of processes across different levels of production, from supply chain management to on-the-ground operations, ultimately driving efficiency and innovation in industrial settings.

11 Factory-X use cases

XR demonstrator

The XR platform enables an interactive experience of the eleven use cases from Factory-X. Users are immersed directly into the 3D world of these applications, experiencing their benefits firsthand through personal interaction and gamification.

Our virtual guide, Colette, provides concise and friendly explanations to support the user experience.

By combining tactile, visual, and auditory stimuli, the knowledge gained is retained more effectively and for a longer period.

IMX Showcase

The IM-X Showcase, powered by LNI 4.0, demonstrates cross-country and inter-company data exchange based on industry standards and federated trust. Interoperability is achieved through modern data space and digital twin technologies. The use case of the showcase is the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which is created during the manufacturing of a battery and continuously enriched with additional data from various companies along the supply chain.

All participants adhere to internationally recognized standards such as the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) by IDTA, OPC UA by OPC Foundation, and CESMII Smart Manufacturing Profiles (CESMII SMP). The IM-X Showcase realizes the interoperability collaboration as announced during the SPS 2024 fair between OPC UA and AAS, as well as the integration of dataspace technologies. The dataspace connectivity is based on the IDSA protocol and Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC), while using their respective IT environments. The DPP provides detailed information about the product itself and its key components from a global supply chain spanning Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Spain, and the USA.
