What is a testbed?
A testbed is a customized test environment for you.
This gives you the opportunity to test and validate the effectiveness and efficiency of new technologies, standards and processes.
The whole thing risk-free. Because your daily production operations are not affected in any way.
The results of the tests contribute to this, Reduce costs and risks. This allows you to accelerate the introduction of new end-to-end solutions. With the certainty that they will also work in your production.
Testbeds are an important part of the Industry 4.0 revolution.
Your advantages with regard to digitization at a glance:
Risk minimization
The implementation of new technologies and processes in production is associated with risks. A testbed allows you to test new technologies in a neutral environment and validate their functionality. And you can do this before you implement them in production and in your company.
Cost savings
A testbed can help you to save costs. You test new technologies, standards and processes in a neutral environment with different manufacturers and optimize them before using them in your production. This helps you avoid costly errors and failures.
Increase in productivity
By using testbeds, you can implement new technologies and processes in your company more quickly. And thus increase your effectiveness and efficiency. This leads to an increase in productivity and greater competitiveness.
Partnerships and cooperations
Testbeds offer you the opportunity to enter into networks, partnerships and collaborations with other companies and research institutions on a pre-competitive basis. This allows you to share your knowledge and resources. Your innovative strength is scaled.
Access to the latest technologies
Testbeds offer you access to the latest standards and technologies. Without your own investment.
Which LNI 4.0 testbeds are available?
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)
The TSN testbed is an open, publicly funded test environment for validating IEEE 802.1 standard extensions.
Time-sensitive networking based on the use cases of small and medium-sized enterprises. The extensions allow,
operate heterogeneous real-time applications in a single TSN communication network. The necessary
Liaison agreements have been concluded with the IEEE 802.1 Working Group and the OPC Foundation.
Asset Administration Shell (AAS)
The AAS testbed is used to test and validate the administration shell (AAS) and its standardization. The partners
work together with a focus on VWS use cases for small and medium-sized enterprises and validate the
Implementation of the asset administration shell. They therefore provide the best input for future standards.
Edge Management
The Edge Management testbed is operated with the aim of developing use cases for the management of edge and field systems.
devices via a device management system and to test the results for small and medium-sized enterprises for the
networking of their devices and to provide impetus for standardization. The partners involved develop and
test possible solutions together in plugfests. In this way, they develop innovative input for future standards.

Human Integration
The new Human Integration testbed addresses the inadequate integration of human actors in the production processes of the
Industry 4.0. This is the place where operational solution proposals for Industry 4.0 scenarios are developed and subsequently

OPC-UA information models
OPC UA Companion Specifications are tested in the OPC UA testbed. They are mainly used by the various
VDMA trade associations. From draft versions to release candidates, everything is included. During the
joint testing of Companion Specifications, basic knowledge about store floor communication and
data models. The OPC VDMA Companion Specifications can be used as submodels in asset administration shells.
